Welcome to Beauty and the Media

This website has been created to form a part of my MA Graphic Design final major project proposal. Looking at social media, web and other media channels that influence appearance and mental health and well-being, resulting in ‘compare and despair’ syndrome. This is for a good-cause campaign which will unpick how culture and community support young consumers and bring new insights for the beauty industry to support a positive change.

The theme of my campaign is ‘Be beyond comparison’ and to get industry and young consumers talking #brandsunfiltered.

How does beauty in the media affect you?

As well as the snapshot infographic above, showing insights from my primary research. I asked students how beauty and media affect them, with some saying it gave them ideas and inspiration and some saying they felt self consciousness. To learn more insights, take a look at my blog.

On-going Research

As well as primary research into the topic, I am looking at ethnography, deduction and secondary research. This will enable me to make informed decisions on a good-cause awareness campaign, to at least try and help young consumers whilst I am a student, up to 25th August 2023.
